Itraconazole is given by mouth in the form of a capsule, tablet, or liquid to treat fungal infections in cats and for off-label treatment in dogs and small mammals. The most common side effects are anorexia, vomiting, liver toxicity, skin lesions, or limb and vessel swelling. It should not be used in pets with liver disease or low stomach acid production, and used with caution in pregnant, lactating, or pets with heart disease.

Kaolin + pectin (brand names: Kaopectolin®, Kao-Pec®, KaoPect®, Kao-Pront®, Kaogel®) is a gastrointestinal protectant that is used to treat diarrhea and certain toxicities in cats, dogs, horses, birds, ferrets and other small mammals.

Ketoprofen is given by mouth in the form of a capsule or tablet to treat pain and inflammation in dogs and horses. It’s use in animals is off label. Do not use this medication in pets that are allergic to it, or in pets concurrently using corticosteroids or other NSAIDs. If a negative reaction occurs, call your veterinary office.

Leuprolide is a synthetic hormone used to treat adrenal gland problems in ferrets, gonadal issues in birds, and experimentally treat reproductive issues and incontinence (involuntary loss of bladder and bowel control) in dogs and cats. It is given by injection.

Lime sulfur topical is a leave-on agent used to treat fungal skin infections such as ringworm (dermatophytosis) and topical yeast infections (Malassezia dermatitis) in dogs, cats, puppies, kittens, and horses. Lime sulfur topical can also be useful in the treatment of several species of skin and fur mites and lice.

Lufenuron is a medication that controls flea infestations in dogs, cats, rabbits, and ferrets. It is given by mouth in the form of a tablet or liquid to dogs, cats, rabbits, and ferrets. It may also be given by injection to cats. Side effects are uncommon but may include vomiting, diarrhea, lack of appetite, tiredness, reddening of the skin, or itchiness. Metyrapone is an adrenal enzyme blocking drug mainly used to treat cats with hyperadrenocorticism (Cushing's disease). It is most useful as a short-term treatment to stabilize cats with Cushing's disease before surgery. It may also be used in ferrets and hamsters.
